    Fanuc communication problems.

    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/archiv...p/t-24221.html

    Hello all.
I use 6tb & 21t fanuc lathes in work. our old laptop kick the bucket a while back so we bought a new one. The problem is that there is no rs232 socket on the new laptop. I bought a usb to r232 adapter but there seems to be a wiring difference. The laptop can receive info but when i try to send it i get an alarm 001. parity problems.
I am sure the usb adapter is the problem. Is it possible to rewire the main lead in some way or is a special rs232 to usb adapter needed.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Cheers..

I've used a Quatech SSP-100 PCMCIA to Serial adapter with no problems. I have had handshaking issues with USB to Serial adapters, but not parity problems.

Alarm 001 says something about parity problems in the book. I did not mean to sound like I knew what that means.
We never had an issue until the adapter was needed. I use DNC4U software. There is a connection wizard within the software which no longer works either. the results are all over the place. The software can still receive a program but sending is a no go. com port, baud rate, stop bits and other settings are the same. The only thing that has changed is the USB adapter.
    thanks for the reply.

    Hello
There are no special rs232 to USB adaptor needed (i.e. standard off the shalve ones will do). Since you mentioned that you bought a new laptop, are you still using same communication software you were using on the old laptop? Have you checked to make sure all the settings on your PC software has been configured correctly? The reason I am asking is most of the PC communication softwares have seperate settings for "send" and "receive".
