Fanuc 18i custom macro B

I am adding Renishaw probing to two Makino A71's with Fanuc 18i control. For probing it says that Custom Macro B and high speed skip are needed. Do I need software for this or is this a parameter change. please help.

The macro B is just a software option. High speed skip is a hardware/software option. I don not know about the A71's, but a FEW manufacturers put the hardware on all the machines regardless of the options ordered.

Bottom line, I'm pretty sure you need to talk to your dealer to get it to work.
At the very least you need 1 machine with it installed and working. (if you have more than one)

So I take it that this option is not something that can be turned on with parameters as is the case for older Fanuc controls

The A71 is not that "old" and neither is your control. However, on a Makino, its possible it may already be installed. Macro B should already be active with the Pro3 control and for the High Speed skip, you may already have the card installed. It's just a matter of someone coming in and making it active to the control. I know for sure the low speed skip should be running. Do you have the tool eye option on the machine? (That's the tool length measure unit). If so, you already have a skip card installed.

High Speed Skip 9936.4

Custom Macro B 9933.7

Additinal Varibles 9937.4

I am pretty sure you can get the Macro B abd theb daitinal Varibles But the Skip function might need a hardware upgrade.
Just make sure you have a back up of all your machine system parrameters befroe you start messing with the option parrameters

Yes it should be the same for all 18 and 21 controls. In general these share all the option parameters. Lathe and mill specific options being the exception I believe.

Once I change these parameters how can I tell if they are activated. Is there a G code

if you have varaibles 100-199 and 500-999 your 9937.4 worked

thanks, I was trying to find out on the High Speed skip when I turn on the parameter if the G31 would let me know if the proper hardware was installed.
