Fanuc OM-B Memory

Have looked around the threads and have not found this problem.. I have recently aquired a Quatromill with a Fanuc OM-B control. The machine appears to function correctly and I can up load and down load programs via the RS232 port.
My problem is that when I look at the Lib fuction with all the programs deleted I appear to only have 4096 bites of memory avaliable. This is more than an little restrictive...
There are two 256K ram chips on the main board in the back but is this used for something else ?

I have tried to get the systemt to spool the program in via DNC but cannot find a function that will allow this either ..

Any Thoughts.

Have you checked to see how much memory fanuc turned on? You should be able to make some "adjustements" to the controller to acess more memory.

Does the machine have a "Tape" or "Remote" mode?

If the memory allocation parameter is 901 then the display show 01000000

The unit has no tape input or paper reader fitted.

Usually the minimum is 20metres, which is 901 bit #4 (xxx1xxxx).
DNC usually has to be activated through the PMC (ladder) often by toggle switch, this sets the G127.5 reg bit on for DNC to operate.
Make sure you have full listing of all parameters and timers etc before making changes.

I did try and change the setting of 901 to #4 and the machine warned me of a potential memory issue... Is this a normal caution ? should i just go ahead and change it ... after first making note of the various parameters.

One question of the G127.5 check , is where do i look to se if this has been set or unset and if so what would i see ? .

The G registers are what the PMC uses to send info to the CNC side over the common buss, the PMC receives from the CNC via F registers.
So you would have to have a switch somewhere, fitted by the MTB and actually programmed into the ladder.
If you can see the ladder on your machine, a search of an output G127.5 would show up if present, otherwise the G values in the diagnostic would show if and when it was on. (G127.5 =1).

Al , Thanks for that , i have changed the 901 parameter to #2 and the avaliable memory has gone up to nearly 50K . Better than 5K .

Now the problem is that the system will not communicate !!! if i take 901 back to #7 it will input and output but set to #7 it does neither ???

Seems a little strange ...

All other things seem to have stayed the same, Is this just an indication of lack of memory ?

Did you mean bit #6? as this is read/punch, #7 (left most bit) is Multiple Repetitive Canned Cycle.
The bit #6 should be left set to 1 when you set the memory bit on.

Al,
Thanks for that , it's now working with a 901 setup of 01000100 . If I try and move the memory any higher .. very strange things happen . I will order a set of extra memory today.

Just need to try and setup the DNC input.... As mentioned I can't find any reference to the G parameters etc..
