    233? That's a new one on me...
    How is your cable wired?
Have you ever communicated with this machine?
What are your settings for I/O channel, device num, etc?

I've seen the 233 alarm a couple times. It is difficult to explain in writing but there is a setting on the PMC side of the machine that is set. It is called online monitor. I can't remember exactly where it is located but I think it is under the settings softkey on the pmc side. Once you find "online monitor" select not use. It's the only other thing in the control that uses RS-232. Hope this helps.

SYSTEM button; [PMC] [>] [MONIT] [ONLINE] [EMG] [INIT] will disconnect PMC

Set parameter No.24 to 255 and PMC will not occupy the serial port at power on.
    regards,
