Anyone here have the New Oi-MC control?

Anyone here have the New Oi-MC control? Or Manual guide i? I just got it on a FADAL and can't get past how poor it's layout and function is. It's NOT an improvement over any older controller if we still can't write complete text strings in the soft menu keys or menu tabs to describe a function (that is if you can find the nested menus). And we still need to type in every single simple command instead of hot keys like a Haas or Mazak.
My favorite, in the year 2007 do we still need to have items listed in our ultra modern controller as "PUNCH", "TAPE", "REWIND", "FFWRD", and so on? I'd laugh but I can't since I spent $6800 for this controller upgrade. I also don't appreciate the clear plastic keys with the ink-jet printed paper behind it...yeah that's quality. What else...Manual guide crashed the controller...The list goes on and on.....

I have the oi-mc control. Its my first fanuc control. Big improvement over my old allen/bradley 9 series controls. But I agree on what your saying about tape rewind buttons... For me, if you don't know what your missing... Our machine is a custom built, so the oi-mc control made sense, I think.

Yes mine is on a Hardinge lathe............It ook some getting use to. I am still programming everything from the control. Copy and paist functions work really good. All my functions are ready to just paist in where I need them. They are saved as programs but you can merge them in where needed.

I don't use any of the learn mode stuff.............it is not needed.

I have a 0iMc on a little Box way Sharp VMC. I love it. I also have a coupel of Haas here that I can not wait to be shed of. I program in Mastercam so I never edit ANYTHING. I send a program to the machine, set offsets and push the green button.
I also have a 0iTc control on my Daewoo 220a lathe. I love that one too.

What don't you like about the Haas control? It's been easy to train new users on as well as problem free. We recently sold off an old 20yr/old VMC with a Fanuc OM control on it. So when we get our new fadal with the Oi-MC we expected something light years ahead of Haas, Anilam, etc or even the old OM. I was shocked to see little has changed. Don't get me wrong I love the AICC control-but that's a standard in todays world of high speed machining. Everything else, like loading programs from our network is cryptic and unrelible compared to other machines with network options.

What I can't stand about my Haas machines is fixing them. Stinkin things are all the time breaking. I have a 2000 mini and a 2004 SL10 with a Servo 300 barfeed. Both have issues. both are on their way out of my shop.
I kind of like the control. There are many things about it that are easier to use over a Fanuc. But...then there's that reliability thing...

    Thumbs up

I have 4 3016 Fadal 0i FX machine, I love them . What do you want to know about the MGI or any other feature . It works just like a Fanuc should .
Plus I got the Renishaw probes and I use the quick functions screens to inspect . I make injection molds and I use AICC , cut my cycle time by 35% from my old Fadal without changing the program .
But I never did like the funny screens haas has anyway , couldn't get operator to use either , so I traded in my VH-2 for 2 of the FX's. plus I was down all the time .

That’s great you’ve had such luck with the 3016 FX. We haven’t. Fadal and our vendor just took back our NEW 3016FX due to our problems with it-rare, but they were cool about it and making us happy. We had the new machine for over a week and cut only two simple parts on it. Most of the problems were with connecting to our network. In addition to other things as well-like the rapid & feed speed in one button with a 120% limit, 350ipm max, etc.? Anyway, not the machine for us because we don’t run production. Also, training a new CNC operator on a Haas control is much easier than a Fanuc-that’s from their mouths not mine. As far as down time, everyone has different luck. We’ve never been down on our Haas machines yet. However the shop down the street has? Depends on maintenance, aggressive users, etc. also.
One Question? How did you cut cycle time by 35% with AICC turned on? It should do the opposite. It slows the machine down to allow for smoother accels and decels between small segments and corners thus creating a smoother and more accurate finish. Both our Haas and our former Fadal slowed the ipm down from 300+ down to around 150ipm with the high speed machining option on for complex surfacing. It’s worth it for the nice finish.

Not to crowbar into the conversation but the AICC, HPCC or most any contouring control fanuc options will open up an extensive amount of lookahead. Built into the software of the option. Depending on what option you have will determine how many blocks it will lookahead. The 0iMC control might not have the high speed option capability. It was built for cost effectiveness not high speed. By far not the Cadillac of the fanuc lineup.

I know the 0iMc is not the top of the line. But I bought the HSM option with mine. I got 120 blocks of lookahead. I do quite a bit of surfacing and complex contouring. It works pretty well.

I agree with PBMW !!! The 0IMC has a lot off functions and with a simple bit you has the maximum look ahead. You need only buy that. It´s very easy to learn and quicly !!!

As PBMW says the Oi control works pretty well for the cost. My earlier point I was trying to make s that there are several different models of fanuc cnc controls built to fit everybody's budget. If you're getting 120 blocks out of a 0iMC control that's awesome!!
