Fiber Optic Cable Length

I have a Fanuc 10TF control that needs a new fiber optic cable. Point A to Point B is only about 1 foot but it has a 5 meter cable on it now. Does it matter how long the cable is as long as it gets where it needs to go. A 1 meter cable would be a lot more handy and cheaper as well.

Any wisdom here on the subject.

A 1-meter cable would not be much cheaper than a 5-meter cable. The fiber itself is inexpensive, the main cost is in the connectors.
