This Fanuc controller (Branded "Moric D5F") on an older Mori Seiki CNC lathe. that I'm currently using at work is not configured the best way for setting tool geometry.
The way it works is I touch each tool on the end face of the job and type "Z0. measure, in each respective Z column. That's all fine to me. The problem is whenever I want to move the zero setting where I want the job to begin, I have to do this tool setting again on every tool in Z. The geometry displayed in the control, sets every single tool in relation to the machine home position, this is a real burden to me.
The way I've worked anywhere else, is to use a G54 or G55 code to set the workshift or zero setting for the job, the finish turning tool would typically be set on zero in the Z axis in geometry, then all other tools are set in relation to this tool. It's a lathe with no tool pre-setter.
Could someone explain how I could set the machine up as it really should be?
