    Default Work Shift vs Measure

I'm running a Ballard VTL driven by a FANUC 18-T. I'm having issues with the work offset. When I go to touch my tool to the work piece, then go to offset settings and scroll to W.Shift, I get the (Shift Value) and(Measurement). From what I'm used to, you only use measure to get your part ZEROS. WELL,when I touch off, select the axis on the (measure side) then type 0, I get some bogus numbers on the (shift value) side. On top of that, if I do a G28 return to home, it goes to my part zeros before returning home(potentially wiping out the part if my tool isn't above the part. Any help would be greatly welcome. Haven't ran a FANUC Control in quite awhile.

Look at this one you need to have the offset of the tool touching active.
And like zavateandu said G28 W0 for Z axis and G28 for U axis.
Writing G28 Z0. will make the tool go to Z0 before going home.
