Smile Fanuc Oi-TC Control, can't use measure button??

I recently started using a Oi-TC control Fanuc, and for some reason it won't let me use the measure button.
e.g move the machine to position, go to work OFFSET's.
    G55
    Select X
    type X0.0
    press MEASURE
    and it says WRITE PROTECT........
I can still edit programs, so it's not the key on the front panel.
I'm positive that the MEASURE button was used the day before, amd worked.
    Thanks

Do you have Parameter Write Enable(PWE) turned on? If it is off you'll get a write protect alarm.

It is most likely that G55 is not enabled on your machine, which will give you this alarm if you try to set it. I suggest you try it again with G54, but that may also not work. Some Oi-T series controllers use work shift instead of work offsets, which you will find a couple of screens to the right. There is an option parameter to enable the additional work offsets, but I don't have that info with me. PWE has no relevance for setting work offsets unless you are setting them via the parameters, and should be turned off (0) for general operation.

    regards, Oz

Thanks guys, myself and another guy have been working the machine, is it possible that he may have inadvertantly changed something that would cause the WRITE PROTECT error, I am 100% positive that the MEASURE button worked yesterday.

    I used G54 through to G56 yesterday.

Since when does PWE have no relevance? Every Fanuc control I've worked on has had to have PWE on to set Offset settings regardless of the method used, with the exception of G10.

If PWE is oN the machine alarms all the time, not just when You are using measure.

Let me rephrase my last comment. All of the Fanuc controls I work with here have to have PWE enabled to change Work Coordinate Offsets G54-G59. Keep in mind that there are signals in the PMC that can be set to inhibit Work Offsets with PWE. I didn't say 100% without a doubt it was PWE, but 99% of the time when I get a Write Protect alarm, I turn on PWE and it goes away; the rest of the time it's generally program protection enabled. To say it has no relevance is incorrect, when the builder may have programmed the ladder to inhibit work offsets if it is not on.

I am not saying you are wrong codyst, because I can't speak for machines in the US, but in 20 years of working with Fanuc controls on various makes of machines in Australia, I have never come across one that requires PWE to be on to change anything other than parameters. As I say, it may be different in the USA, but I do know that CE Spec (European) machines work that way, as do any machines built for Australia (which these days are mostly CE spec anyway).

So I guess at the end of the day, yes it is technically incorrect, but so it is to say that it has to be on. It is all relevant to where the machine is.

    regards, Oz

I think that to change an work offset, you need change PWE, is very wrong and dangerous !!! When you turn on PWE, you have acess to change parameters too !!! Itīs not logical !!! For example, an operator, need change an geometry, and need put PWE to 1 !!! He will has acess to all parameters !!! So i will confirm, itīs possible change these by ladder, yes !!! But the maker that do these, donīt think in these problem !!!

    Measure

Be sure you have the correct work offset G55 in this case "active" when you use the measure function. It is most likely giving you the error because the wrong fixture offset is active.

    aplication tech

on the oitc control the work shift you are trying to set has to be active, to do this go to MDI and type in the work position you wount active ex.
G55 . then you can go back to the offests and the measure button will work.
