18-it cutter comp

hi
im a new member, and i need to know how to use cutter compensation on afunuc 18-it control i have never really used it before. We just got this new vertical boring mill and i was trying to do this 1.5 arc up to a bore with a .250 radius on a taper, useing a .5 button tool and i couldent get how to use the cutter comp it was not working. so i hope some one could help me out with that. thanks.
