    160i-L null cable

    Amada laser / Fanuc 160i
We upgraded our system to win 7, and our machine talk does not work. So we are looking at several programs. The rs232 cable was wired for the old software. We have been told by Amada that we just need a null cable (DB9 to DB25) to run the new software. We have tried different ones but it does not seem to work. It would be great help if someone would tell us the correct pin outs and how the params should be set.
    Thanks in advance.
    Daka

this is a classic case of when an upgrade is absolutely not necessary and just makes it worse.
technically you could use an old 286 with DOS and file transfer via RS232 will work.
nothing newer is required. if you can, just go back to the old system (probably XP I assume) and save time.
alternatively check your COM port settings in the control panel and/or the COM settings in the transfer software.
if the old cable worked you definitely don't need a new cable. the problem is software related.

    Hi Daka,
You will find that the issue is with the Win 7 being installed as a 64 bit Operating System (default). Win 7 can be installed as a 32 bit OS or you can emulate 32 bit from the standard installation. The Null Modem is a generic term covering a few configurations with the name harking back to its origin as a cable used to connect directly two DTE devices without a Modem. The correct Null Modem cable to use with a Fnuc control is either a Loopback Null modem cable or a Full Handshake Null Modem cable. The Loopback configuratio is most frequently used with the Fanuc control and is probably the one that you have.

Particularly if you're using a USB to Serial adaptor, you will need a 64bit driver for the Serial device if a 64 bit OS is used.

    Regards,

    Bill
