I had a similiar problem with coordinates - check the "absolute manual" setting on your machine.
Machine: 1981 Mazak VMC Fanuc 6MB control
I have a strange problem with tool lenght measuring. I measure my tools from a fixed block on the tool table. I use G59 for these coordinates. My edge finder is my reference tool. I put my height gauge on the block and touch off. The Z-Machine position is put in G59 Z-offset, so the Z-absolute should be 0.
Whithout any offset, my z-position now is +3.854 [mm]. What is going wrong?
It has worked well in the past.
To complete:
-no Z offset is used
-machine is zero-ed correct
-it worked in the past
-I didn't mess with any parameters in between

you mean the toggle switch 'manual absolute'?
Already had that problem when I was trying to get the work coordinats G54,G55 etc to work. This is different. I can check after the weekend, but other things work fine. When I offset all tools from the reference tool it works perfectly, but the Z-coordinats are all shifted.
