Excel PMC 5T18, Fanuck 21:Tool Change Sticks

Excel mill has swing arm that changes tools. When it grabs the tool in the spindle, it hangs for a second and then drops down with the tool and continues the change cycle. Sometimes, after it pulls the tpol and drops down it rotates toward home but quits half way. Have to manually push the relays inside the machine to complete the cycle.

However, It works perfectly with no tool in the spindle. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong mechanically.

The signal to the relay that controls the rotation of the arm drops before the arm completes its cycle. Manually activating the relay completes the cycle.

Any help to fix this problem or where to look to further diagnose will be appreciated.

It may be the relay itself that's causing the problem. Recently, a situation with a clients machine, where the bar feeder would either randomly not feed, or multiple feed, the cause of which was traced to a faulty relay.

In position of the components of a tool changer is generally monitored by proximity switches. I would find the addresses of all proximity switches associated with the troublesome part of the tool change, and monitor theirs state via the diagnostic page. Watch to see if their is a change of state that is causing the relay to swich prior to the arm reaching its correct position.

If you're unsure of logic involved with the tool change routine, find that area in the Ladder, either hard copy, or via the control, to get a better understanding of how the various I/O interact.

Regards,

Bill

Tool Change sticks

When it hangs half way it isn't near the proximity switch. When it runs properly (without a tool holder in the spindle) it stops at the proper place.

I'll try to get a relay and replace the one that may be bad.

Contactor cross reference needed

The contactor according to the book is FUJI SW-03RM/3H, the part is marked SC-03(11).

The relay is Fuji HH52 PL.

I'm looking for cross reference to other manufacturers or an updated part number.

I've bought Fuji stuff from AutomationDirect. They can be a bit pricey on some stuff but generally most stuff is good.

Otherwise Fuji is:

FUJI ELECTRIC FA COMPONENTS & SYSTEMS

You can look at this for the HH52, etc.

fuji eletric has tons of catalogs and reference information and other stuff for relays, contactors online..

anything beginning with S in their part numbers seem to be the japanese part number.
