Hello, I have been fighting with a problem for some time with a machine I bought a few months back. Our original problem was the Communications with the RS 232 port on the VMC. After re-searching and setting the proper parameters on the machine I could not get any posts to either "read" or "punch" from the machine. I called in our local CNC tech (ill leave out their name) and after 8 hours he could not get the com to work and after changing parameters for hours the machine will not read or write to a pcmi card in the back. I am consistantly getting an error to "turn off power" on the control now. Does anyone have a list of factory parameters for the control so I can manually reset them and start over? The only parameters changed are the ones for RS232 connection. Idealy I would like to check 0-300 (im not at the control) in the table to be sure everything is back in order. This has been frustrating to say the least. I called in a tech expecting to have this fixed. The result was a guy searching Google and randomly changing cable/ports/computers etc for hours. My computer even has com port conflicts now...though I can fix these. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have found a great deal of knowledge just scrolling your site. Thanks to all for sharing. Chuck Blowers CJB Tooling |

| Wow, sounds like you got hosed. That's why I always bring my laptop, and a known good cable. I can look up parameters on monday, but it's only a few for the rs 232. The card slot in the back on non i series controls only take SRAM cards, so a ata card wouldn't work. I don't know of any comm parameters that would make you switch off the control. |

| Chuck, Unless there is a problem with your machine's control, communication via RS232 is quite straight forward with the Series 18 control, indeed all Fanuc controls. Regards, Bill Check that the following parameters are set as shown: Parameter #0000 bit 0 = 0 bit 1 = 1 #0020 = 0 #0100 bit 2 = 0 bit 3 = 1 bit 5 = 1 #0101 bit 0 = 1 bit 3 = 0 bit 7 = 1 #0102 = 0 #0103 = 11 (9600 Baud rate) The Setting Page parameters have been set above, but check that they are correctly set on that page as follows TV CHECK 0 0: Off; 1: On Punch code 0 0:ISO; 1:EIA Input device 0 RS232 The above setting of parameter #102 selects Xon Xoff (Software Handshaking) at the control. The cable pin out for Xon Xoff handshaking is as follows: Machine Side -------------------------------------- PC Side DB25 Male Connector --------------- DB25 Female ------------DB9 Female 1----Cable Shield --------------------Not Connected ----------Not Connected 2 ------------------------------------------ 3 -------------------------- 2 3 ------------------------------------------ 2 -------------------------- 3 4 | bridged 5 6 | 8 all bridged | 20 7 ------------------------------------------ 7 -------------------------- 5 PC Software Setting Handshake Method = Xon Xoff Baud Rate = 9600 (Same as Control Setting) Data Bits = 7 Stop Bits = 2 Parity Bit = Even |
