We've been selling two different kinds of BTR solutions for Fanuc 3000C controls for about 20 years. Our most popular hook-up is a "direct BTR" connection using a special cable and software that mimics the 3000C tape reader through a PCs parallel printer port. All you do is connect our special BTR cable between a PCs LPT port and the Fanuc's memory board (at the PTR connector), then you load our software and run. This solution is best if you can locate a PC near the machine. The parallel BTR cable can't be more than about 15 feet long. This BTR connection lets you dump files from the PC into the Fanuc memory or run very long programs in TAPE mode.
An alternative solution is to install a BTR board inside the CNC control and run a serial cable from that board to your PC. There are several on the market, but we like the one made by ADR Corporation. It taps in to the same PTR plug on the Fanuc memory board, and it has an RS232 port so you can run a long cable to your PC if you need to. Besides the advantage of locating the PC farther away from the CNC, the BTR board also lets you connect the Facit punch port on the CNC to the board,
The big difference is price. The dirrect BTR cable/software kit is $1195 for Windows PCs. The ADR board is about $1495.00, and then you still need some PC software to transmit data to it.
If you have two machines to connect, our direct BTR kit is the best buy, because we only charge 1/2 price for the second copy you buy. Two BTR kits would be $1792.50.
