| I believe that some builders include the option of Canned Cycles for Drilling (G80-G89) with their machines, others don't. If your machine has live tooling, it may or may not have Rigid Tapping. So it might help to know what machine make and model you have. If it has Rigid Tapping, M29 is usually used to activate the Rigid Tapping. So to program a tapped hole on the main spindle, it might look like this: N3 G28 U0 W0 T0303 (M6X1 TAP) G00 G97 X0 Z3. M08 M29 S200 (ACTIVATE RIGID TAP) G84 Z-20. F1. (TAP 20MM DEEP) G80 M09 G28 U0 W0 M01 |

| I've never done that many tapped holes on the lathe... a lot of OD threads but not much internal threading or tapping. On the mill I use a CAT40 Bilz style T&C head with the Bilz tap collets. On the lathe I do OD laydown threading with some Carmex inserts (though I've heard that Kennametal, SECO and ToolFlo have good ones). I have a pretty well configured 0T-C at my disposal and I'm still learning lathes using this particular control. I admit I haven't been using the canned cycles as I probably could be, but I was given some examples to try out. Anyone wanna try sending me some examples for my OT-C to try out? I've recently seen a lot of neat mill/turn centers doing some drilling, tapping and threading. |
