I am calling sub programs from the card with M198. It works fine with parameter 3404.2 set to 0 for calling by file number. I want to call by program name for future safety. I set 3404.2 to 1. I can then only call programs with no file extension. Like programs sent from machine to card. They call up fine as an M198 sub. The problem is my posted programs are .txt files. I know how to rename them .H for Heidenhain but it appears I have to have no extension for Fanuc. Is this true? |

| You don't say what model Fanuc, but according to the 0iT-C manual, you can only specify a 4-digit number with M98 Pnnnn or M198 Pnnnn. It can be a File number or a Program number- no extensions allowed. 0001 O1234 0002 O1054 0003 O5033 |

| Sorry about that, I simply assume everyone knows exactly what I'm thinking. I have a 0i MD. It works as you described. M198 P2273 The issue is, program O2273 from my cam is O2273.txt. It does not see O2273.txt. Only if it is simply named O2273. I had to transfer a program from the machine. This gives me a file with no extension. Then I delete its contents, then past the program I want into it so it does not have an extension. Then it works as it should. Unless I'm missing something, the only difference is, it has no file extension. I first just copied the first few lines from the program already in the machine to the new program. No luck. I had it in the past where it looked fine but a certain character was off or something and it would not download correctly. During normal downloading with a card I can have the .txt because I'm downloading by calling a file number. The M198 will work that way as well by calling a file number. Just not as safe if the wrong card is put in or files got moved, or whatever. |

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the card, right click on the file name, click Rename, then change O1234.txt to O1234 and hit enter. Click OK on the warning that the file may become unusable... you won't be able to double click on a file to open it in Notepad or Wordpad or whatever editor you use because without an extension, there's no longer a file association, but you can still right-click on the file and use "Open With" if you need to edit the program. |

| Have a look in CONTROL PANEL > FOLDER OPTIONS there might be a relevant setting in there, set incorrectly. You normally have to uncheck "hide extensions for known file types", but looking at your last post you have this covered.

| Or.... open the file on your pc, FILE SAVE AS type the desired name in quotation marks, SAVE. Anytime you save a file on a pc and have the file name in quotes, the file will be saved exactly as typed with no extentions. You may be able to set up your post processor to do the same? |

| I'm having a similar problem but i can't read any files. I've checked the parameters per the book and all are set. When i do the M198 P0104 call it pauses and says it can't find the file(sp1966 code). I have the file on the card several ways named "O0104" , "O104" , "0104" and "104" all without exts but It can't find any of them. Am I missing something here????????? |

| Try, like I did; Down load a file to the card from the machine that runs fine. That way you know it is a format the control likes. Then try to call it up with M198 Depending on PRM 3404.2 M198 P1234 (1234 is program name) OR M198 P1 (1 is file number) If this works, we can help figure out how to do a new file. |
