ethernet transfer for Oi-MD

Hi All,

I have a VMC with OI-MD and would like to use the LAN for transfer instead of performing the "PMCIA relay race" everytime I need to load a new program.

I could use RS232 but would much prefer to use the higher speed LAN.

What software would your recommend?
I contacted Fanuc UK and they can't get me their software package until June !!!

Thanks

Derek.

Ethernet for Fanuc

Derek,
I'm not sure of the exact procedure, but know that you only need some simple FTP software to communicate with the newer Fanucs. No need for any expensive DNC software.

I'll try to find some details for you.

Derek,

use TYPSoft FTP Server (free), install it on your PC connected to ethernet to your VMC , assign aa directory for your data ( such as c:/ncdata )

set parameter I/O channel to 9

restart the vmc, test ping from your pc to VMC IP and vise versa

if okay, then you will be able to read files on your pc ( c:/ncdata) from your vmc

Hi MCV300,

That sounds great, I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Thank you :-)
Derek.

Hi,

Everything is connected up and I can ping the PC from the control and visaversa.
I have fileziller server installed but still can't see the files on my PC.
I set up a folder on the pc and have the control pointed at that directory (no \ on the fanuc only/)

I/O ch set to 9 and the control hangs for about a minute, then reports "unable to open file list) when I try to read the files.

I have port 21 set on the control but not sure how to config the PC end.

Help appreciated.
Cheers
Derek

use TYPSoft FTP Server : ::.TYPSoft.::

Choose "without install" version , you just need to copy the folder on C: and then run the exe from that directory

I have tried many other ftp servers and they didn't work

Also you may have to disable PC firewall

Hi MCV,

Thank you - I have the FTP file transfer working with Typsoft.

The Fanuc is limited to a file name length of 9 characters - that stumped me for a while and also I have to use the F_NAME set instead of O_Set.

Operating the file transfer fron the Control is a bit clunky (it is Fanuc after all !)

So, I'm looking at the option of the Open Communications software and I'm testing this now.

The main thing is that I'm not having to do the PMCIA relay race any more - happy days :-)

ATB all,
Derek

derek, you dont have to type in the filename from control,
just scroll to file you want, press ">" "FGET" ">" FNAME, input your O number EXEC

I read somewhere you can change parameter so your i/o will be from embedded ethernet to pcmcia , this can add more storage space I think

btw what is open communication software ?

Hi MCV,

I found the FGET key - very easy to input the required file name now. The max characters are still 9. I'll have to think of a diferent file naming system.

Open Communications is a package written by a group of Spanish graduates.
I have only tested the demo (limited file size) but it does the lot.
I can download / upload programs from the control / parameters / tool lists etc.
Also arrange the files on the control copy / rename/ delete etc from my PC.
It has a server built in - "I think" it will DNC over the LAN (not sure).

I will install the full version soon.

ATB
