adding rapid override switch to 3T?

Greetings Fanuc Folks,
I'm running a Miyano lathe with the 3T control. It's a fine machine but there is no rapid override. It does have dry run, but all the feeds are the same in dry run mode. I would really love to add a rapid override switch and dial. Can anybody here give me any direction?
Thanks,
Eric

youll need to see if miyano wrote the ROV1/ROV2 bits in the ladder. if theyre in there, just need to find the inputs they tied them to and install a switch. if not in the ladder, good luck. Ive got a pc programmer for the 3/6, but using it is not my idea of fun...

The Dry Run Mode changes feedrate to the *JV1-8 signals : does it have a jog override or jog speed select buttons? if so those should adjust your Dry Run speeds...

Tim

Greetings Tim,
Boy, I wouldn't even know how to look for Rov1/Rov2 in the ladder logic. I guess I need to learn some more about the control. I did find the parameters for the inputs of four wires that control the speed override is discrete steps. I don't know where the wires connect to the control and if the feed override switch for regular feed moves and dry run is already connected to the control through these four inputs. I don't have a connection diagram for this exact control but do have one for an earlier model of the 3T. So I'll take a look at it to see if the connections are the same. Can you tell me how to look at the ladder for this control?
Thanks for the reply yesterday.
Eric

for the ladder, you need a paper copy- these controls couldnt display it...if you have a paper copy, and are trying to go thru the logic, Fanuc took a very simple approach on these older controls- numbers dont repeat...so x10.0, f20.0, g30.0, etc(not sure where xydfgr addresses are allocated in a 3- been a long time) just look at the diagnostic page for the number- forget the letter...
if you dont have a ladder printout, I have a basic decompiler I wrote for the 6 ladders long long ago- but you will need acess to a eprom burner. if you can copy the roms/email me the data, I'd be glad to(try to) print it out for you, or if you can find a prom burner capable of merging the low/high byte chip data into one file (unsplit the data) I could email you the program to run your file thru...I use a 'needhams electronics' ISA burner, it does just about anything- including unsplitting data into one readable file...
only bad thing is, my program extracts mnemonics only- I never finished the graphical conversion- and probably never will...I still have a very hard time troubleshooting via mnemonics- the rdstk/orstk/andstks just make my head spin...I have to draw it out in ladder to 'see' it.
last ladder I printed for a 6 I typed the mnemonic into the old P-G computer set up for pmc K-L-M and it printed out nicely, but I type slow...if you want something like that, I could probably hire one of my kids to type it into the pig for a few bucks- I'm not too interested though

Ive got the system 3 maintenance drawings and somewhere a connection manual- I'll let you know if I can track them down...thats a pretty old control, but they werent bad at all

adding to the above post...

was just looking for something else, stumbled on the 3/6 interface...

3t merged hx/rov1 and hz/rov2...
hx/rov1 is G1.7
hz/rov2 is G3.7

track down your MPG X/Z select switch wires, you can put it in thru there- no ladder reading required, just need a switch, some diodes and a little wire-

PM me your email...

Tim

Tim,
On this Miyano the mode select rotary switch selects which axis the MPG will move. So I just need to use the same wires that go to this switch to add another switch for rapid override? That sounds great. I'm hoping that the feed rate override switch will then control the rapid speed when that switch is thrown. I replied in a PM to you with my e-mail already. Would you also send me the schematic for adding the diodes and switch?
Thank You,
Eric

Eric,
youre welcome- just emailed you the list/drawing, Fanuc actually had the schematic in the FS3T signal descriptions so it should be pretty easy- per their drawing even .
if you didnt get it, check your spam folder make sure AOL addresses arent filtered out- had that happen a few times...
Tim
