Fanuc OT RS232 WIRING AT MACHINE ????

I just picked up a 1990 Leadwell LTC-20P with a Fanuc OT control. I had a quick look in the power cabinet and back of control but cannot see where you would connect the cable for a RS232 connection. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks

Buy me a Beer?

There are generally two RS232 sockets on a 0, and location depends on the exact version, if you send me an email add via a P.M. I can send you the Fanuc RS232 manual.

What problem are you having? Are you getting alarms when you try to READ or PUNCH?

No I'm getting any alarms, its like the connection does not even exist as nothing happens when hitting the read or punch button.
Only when I'm using a memory card then it reads from the memory card.

Given that you are able to read from the memory card, its likely that you have the wrong input/output device set in parameter #0102. Following is the whole configuration and will work if there are no problems with either the control or the PC and PC software.

Regards,

Bill

Set the following parameters at the control.

#0020 = 0
#0100
bit 1 = 0
bit 2 = 0
bit 3 = 1

#0101
bit 0 = 1
bit 3 = 0
bit 7 = 1

#0102 = 0(RS-232C)
#0103 = 11 (9600)(Baud rate)

Cable pin out for Xon Xoff handshaking
Machine End-------------------------------PC End
DB25 Male connector-------------DB25 Female-----DB9 Female Connector
1 (Chassis ground)------------- (Not connected)---- (Not connected)
2-------------------------------------3-------------------2
3-------------------------------------2-------------------3
7-------------------------------------7-------------------5
4 and 5 bridged
6,8, and 20 bridged

Settings for the PC software
Hand shaking method = Xon Xoff (Software handshaking)
Data bits = 7
Stop bits = 2
Parity bit = Even
Baud Rate = 9600

Hi Bill

Thanx for the information u sent me, I can see that it is very much useful.
The only challenges I'm facing now is that I cannot change the machine parameters and I tried to open the RS232 cable casing but I could'nt identify the connections since there are no numbers.

Regards,
Mdu

Mdu,
Why aren't you able to change the parameters?

Unless the cable has moulded ends, you should be able to open the back shells.

The attached picture is of the pin assignment for a DB9 female connector (PC End) and a DB25 male connector (Machine End).

If you can't open the back shells of the cable connectors for whatever reason, you will be able to identify the cable pin out using a Multi Meter. Get a DB9 male connector that uses soldered pin connectors from an electronics shop and plug it into the female DB9 connector of your cable; this will make using a Multi Meter easier for you. Now using the attached picture as a guide, you will able to determine the cable configuration.

Regards,

Bill
