PMC setup for FAPTIII

This is my first day here and my first post so here goes.

Fanuc Powermate D PMC-PA3
FAPTIII V5.7

I have read a dozen or so posts on getting FAPT to work with various controls. They all talk about settings on the PMC screens that I don't have. I have tried every setting in the PMC I/O area I can think of. The one that seems most likely Is
"CHANNEL 1"
"DEVICE HOST"
Every thing else blank, make the settings under "SPEED" The same as the software, and hit "exec".
FAPT says "COM PORT 4 CONNECTING" ... "DISCONNECTING"

If anyone has any experience getting this to work, I would be eternally gratefull. I really don't want to have to make the number of changes I need to make with the Ladder edit card.

Thanks,
Bill

ladIII
has two ways of connecting
1. Ethernet.
2. RS232

option 1 all you need to do is enable High speed communications on the monitor page and set all the ethernet IP settings in the appropreate section on
SYSTEM -> + -> + -> + -> ETHER

Option 2 all the RS232 settings must be set correctly, use channel 0 or 1 and the cable is a standard Fanuc RS232 then connect on LADIII

This is where all the PMC LADIII setting are on the CNC
SYSTEM -> PMC -> MONITOR

if you cannot see this page, most likely you will need to enable the progamming setting

SYSTE -> PMC -> PMCPRM -> SETTING ->

if you don't know about these pages I would advise you don't mess with changing PLC's!

Best Regards

Thank you for your reply.
SYSTE -> PMC -> PMCPRM -> SETTING -> does not have any related settings just something about "BCD OR ASCii".
After spending 8 hours on this yesterday, I am almost convinced this particular version of Powermate / PMC does not have the "MONITOR" section. The other option is the same I have been trying and that is that some parameter needs to be set.
I will continue to look for answers / advice.
If I find my answer, good or bad, I will post back here in case it helps someone else out.

Thanks again,
Bill

It should be [SYS] {pmc} {>} {>} {>} {MONITOR}

Try setting K17.1 to a 1. It might cure it, but i can't remember. It enables editing etc of the PMC.

I have k17.1 set to 1. This machine does not have online edit. You have to use a "Ladder Edit Card". I will try [SYS] {pmc} {>} {>} {>} {MONITOR} with the card inserted after the machine stops production for the day. I can't say I tried pressing the soft key 3 times. Its worth a shot.

Thanks,
Bill

If this machine needs an extra card to display the ladder.
I very much doubt it has the option to monitor the PLC remotely

your best option is to extract the ladder then modify it offline.
then upload it back to the cnc

files are form the B-62835/01.pdf Maintenance manual

just choose channel 0 or 1 and up/down load like a normal file

Yes that appears to be an option. After discussions with another forum member, I have the correct method for my control. It involves using "IO by IO" setup. After I have successfully completed the entire process I will post a brief summary of the procedure.

Thanks,
Bill

Ok, I have completed my project using FAPT III.
1. Make a new "dummy" program with the correct PMC version.
2. Go to "Tool" > "Load From PMC"
3. Select "IO by IO" > "Load From PMC" > "ladder"
4. Set the com setting same as PMC IO "SPEED" settings.
5. On PMC IO screen set "Channel 1" (my case) > "host" (nothing else) Press "exec".
6. Click "Finish" on last screen of software.
Reverse (basically) to write to PMC.

These very brief instructions are for my PMC type (PA3) and may not work for another type.
You should refer to Fanuc manual B-6634en/06 for more info and thanks to CNC2149 for filling in the blanks.

Bill.
