    Spindle not stopping

    Hi Guys
Using Fanuc 10T controller on a Mori Seiki lathe. Whenever M05 M01 is used in the program the spindle does not come to a complete stop. It will de-cellerate rapidly and then "freewheel" the last revloloution before coming to a complete stop. As I understood it the servo drive should control the motor until it reaches standstill.
There are no other alarms and the machine runs perfectly well apart from this.
Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas or comments.

Is this something that just happened or has always been there?
Some drives send an At-Zero-Speed back to the controller, when this happens the control terminates the spindle command, this zero sp signal can occur just above actual zero so hence the run on.

    Hi Al
I am being told this has only just started happening. But I cannot be certain. What you describe seems to fit in perfectly with what happens and as there are no other alarms and the machine runs ok with screw cutting and speed changes etc it suggests there are no encoder or feedback related problems. It is strange no one has noticed it before.

First off, you can change a Keep relay to stop the spindle with just the M01/M00 command, no need for M5. And your spindle is not stopping because your belts are slipping. The decel is working, but as soon as the drive releases the rotating mass is causing it to keep spinning. Look there before you go any further.

    X2 for the belts.
