21i-MA - Memory Card

I can read programs from the memory card to the control memory. I can copy parameters and programs from the control memory to the card. I would like to be able to DNC large programs from the memory card, but I can't.

I followed the instructions in previous posts on this topic. I don't get the DNC-CD and DNC-ST soft keys. I get an alarm 3 - "too many digits", when trying M198 to run a sub-program from the memory card.

I have I/O = 4

Does anybody know if the 21i-MA is able to support DNC from the card?
Do I need to purchase any options from Fanuc to support this?

Thanks,
-itai

Parameter #138 bit 7 = 1 enables DNC from memory card.

I doubt that dnc from memorycard for the21ia is available, even as an option. The earlier 18ia control software did not have it either- needed a software upgrade. Call Fanuc (good luck!) to find out what the status is and please post it here.

memoryman is probably right. Interestingly enough, the 21i/210i/210is - MA Operator's Manual (GFZ-63094EN/02) section 4.10 details DNC Operation with Memory Card. This is a GE Fanuc manual, not a regular Fanuc manual.

Does the screen display RMT when you put it in TAPE or RMT mode?

Yes, when the selector switch is set to DNC, the screen shows RMT.

dcoupar,

I only have the 63094EN/01 manual. Do you have the GFZ-63094EN/02 in PDF format?

The "Too many digits" alarm resulted from having a setting of 2 for the M address parameter.

One I got over that, the M198 didn't cause an alarm, but just hung up with the cycle start light on.

To test the M198, I set the I/O to 0 and the device type to 3 (serial connected floppy cassette ?) and connected to a terminal window on a PC. The M198 sent A: to the PC. I guess that is part of a strange fanuc protocol.

Check out parameter 3030 - number of digits for M code, sounds like this parameter is not set to 3 hence your alarm.
