Ot-C with bar feed option

My Akebono lathe is prewired for a Sameca single bar feeder - can I use any single bar feeder ie LNS, Spego etc or does it need to be a SMW/Sameca?

Without prints, hard to tell, but I have put in many barfeeders and most of the single tube ones use pretty much the same signals. You usually have end of bar signal, barfeed unlatched signal ( for loading new bars ), emergency stop, some have barfeed on signals as well. Single tube units can be put on pretty much any lathe.

From my print it looks like there are three 24 volt connections - Bar Alarm, Bar OK, and End of Bar.

Bar alarm= barfeeder in place and locked down
Bar OK= barfeed running
EOB=end of bar

You will need to tie in the the factory Estop so the barfeed Estop shuts everything down. 2 wires, no big deal. If you don't and someone hits it and it doesn't shut the machine down you could end up with a huge lawsuit.

I found on another print there is a connection for Bar E-stop - so it looks good.

There most probably will be a 2nd set of barfeeder estop wires which should be put through a N/O contact on the machine side (usually hydraulic contactor)

you have to be weary buying a barfeeder that is not designed for the lathe as sometmes the ladder in the lathe will not have the correct logic for the barfeeder.

Thats really not the case on single tube barfeeders. They are pretty simple and can usually be hooked up to almost anything.
