Tapping parameters on Fanuc16mb | | I just started a project that I have been putting off for about 2yrs now. I have a Toshiba-BP13-P6 horizontal bar with a Fanuc 16mb control on it. It was retrofitted in 07.
I have limited documentation on this machine other then the Fanuc manuals. We are having problems tapping. We are using a compression tap. It taps fine to the bottom of the hole but when the spindle reverses the Z axis sits for about 2sec before feeding out of the hole causing almost max compression on the holder. Once the tool does exit the hole it springs back releasing the tension on the holder intern bouncing the tap on the threading hole damaging the first few threads.
I ass u me this to be a parameter setting. I remember vaguely seeing something about the M05 being output when the spindle goes from CW to CCW. I found this in parameter 5101.6 and it is set to output M05. Is this my problem? I have not had a chance to trial this yet. I have compared this setting to all of my other machining centers past and present that we tap on and found they are set to NOT output M05 when going from CW to CCW.
I am also going to look at adding rigid tap on this machine. My question is what and how do I check from a hardware standpoint to make sure I can do this. IIRC I all I need is an encoder on the spindle correct?
Thanks guys,
