I just purchased a verticle mill with a Fanuc controller 10M. I have limited knowledge of this system. I powered it up yesterday and received an overcurrent alarm when I tried to Jog the Z axis. I took the gaurd off of the spindle Quill ball screw and tried to turn the Servo by hand but it appears stuck in the up position. It hasn't gone far enough up to activate the top micro switch. Is there a brake on the spindle that I'm missing. The milling machine is a COMET built in 1985. If I'm in the wrong post please advise. Thanks |

| If the Z axis servo motor has a brake, it is usually a 2 pin cannon connector close to the shaft end on most motors. There is also a possibility it has a counterbalance system. Can you contact where you bought it to find out if they locked up the Z for shipping? Al.

After more research and fiddling I found that the Lead screw for the quill was rusted just enough to make it stick. I was able to free it up with a few taps with a dead blow hammer and some penetrating oil. Cleaned it up and it runs free bu hand, but won't work in the jog mode yet. I now have a couple of alarms to clear. Overcurrent on the servo and one on the encoder. How do you clear alarms? Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. |
