What is a fanuc FA card ?

I have a nardini lathe with a 20TA control. the rs232 is gone on it. The machine has a slot for an FA card is this a special item or will a PC card workn this?

Special item. the Model "A" controls were not designed to accept an SRAM or a ATA card.
The "FA" card is black in color with blue lightning bolts. It is used for loading the ladder or individual files provided by the builder. Either a 128 or 256K size.
FANUC sells the card to the builder and once the machine is functioning all information is stored on this card.
Kind of like a powermate D or E.

Look carefull, because the RS232 normally have small fuses on the RS232 plug of the controller. You can be in luck and some may have blow. A simple replacement could do the job.

Not an expert is correct. Only later i series are capable of ATA cards. The last fujitsu card I bought from Fanuc with the lightening bolts costs more than repairing the RS232. I don't think they were very easy to transfer programs with, a std computer will not read them. Lots of drivers and hope and pray you could see the card on the laptop.
