fanuc 10m

Hi, I am trying to tap with my fanuc 10m it is on a victor v center 4 mill how do I see if it has rigid tapping? I am using g84 but when the tap goes down and threw the stock the spindal does not revers fast enough and it pulls the stock out the vise the z axis does not do this, it is the spindal I just need to know how to make the spindal stop and revers faster. Thank You

PM me your 9100 parameters and I will look at them and let you know if you have rigid tap.

You also may have the wrong syntax. Can you post your code so we can look at it? Remember G84 is just a standard tap cycle. You will need a M29 along with G84 for a “rigid tap” cycle.

Not allowed in the public forum due to proprietary issues with Fanuc.

I assume you have a encoder on the final spindle shaft?
Al.

I sent you a PM. With rigid tap you will have to use M29. See below. IIRC it can be the line before or the same line.

M29
N44 G84 G98 X-2.5 Y0. Z-.7625 R.5 P0. F29.79
N45 X-1.25

Skippy,
I am replying to your PM in the thread because it now sounds like you will have to start looking at what Al stated. Do you have an encoder on the spindle shaft? This will be Al's area of expertise.

Skippyfix,

Can I ask how you calculated the feedrate? It doesn't look right to me for a 1/4-20 tap.

I have the same problem on a Mori I have with a 10M, it takes about 2-3 rev's to reverse - but I have to work around it. When I'm tapping blind holes I have to do some trial and error to get the tap to go as deep as I need it without bottoming out. I've never had a problem with the part getting pulled out of the vise though.

John
