Flash cards and file ext.

May have found something that is throwing a wrench into the DNC problem. Today Fanuc mentioned that the control does not like file extensions (TXT) in my case.
How does everybody save programs to the flash card? I have no problem taking programs on and off the card but will not dnc from the card.
I have been through the parameters and they are right according to everyone. But now it reads "cannot find file" when going from a M198 sub.
Is there a way to remove the ext? If so I have not found one on the web yet.
Thanks,
Gary

I usually save programs a .NC files. I wasn't aware Fanuc didn't like .txt extensions.

It's my understanding that you can't use M198 while in DNC operation.

It's an ASCII text file from any text editor. What editor do you use?

If Fanuc says the control doesn't like extensions, then just go into Windows Explorer, select the file, and rename it without an extension. Once you do that though, you won't be able to double-click on the filename to open it on your PC.

What does your M198 block look like?

Check parameter #3404 bit 2 (SBP): If it is a 0, the P in the M198 block specifies a file number. If it's a 1, then the P is specifies a program number.

All my files are .txt and I've never had a problem with Fanuc or any orther control sending or recieving files.

Did the .nc solve your problem?

dcoupar,
I was just saving as a word file. But as a test I saved as a nc file direct from the cam system (o1007)
No help.
I checked the 3404 it was 0 so I changed to a 1
No help.
This is crazy. I am really starting to hate big yellow

Currently your M198 P1005 is looking for O1005 on the card. You don't have one.

Try the following:

Change the filename on the card: 1007 to O1007
Change your M198 P1005 to M198 P1007

OR

Change 3404 back to 0
Change your M198 P1005 to M190 P0005

This should look for file number 0005 on the card, which is 1005.txt

I do remember breifly using a flash card to load programs ( I'm akin to RS232 )
I think the programs were .P2 files or something like that.

dcoupar,
Thanks for the response. I originally had the "o" in the program, and it generated a alarm (don't remember which one) but Fanuc had me take that out and now I am down to the "cant find file"
Now I will try the
"Change 3404 back to 0
Change your M198 P1005 to M190 P0005"

As I did not do that one earlier.
Thanks,
Gary

Ok..
Just tried the "Change 3404 back to 0
Change your M198 P1005 to M190 P0005"

Didn't work..but it didn't alarm either. When the control got to the M190 line it just stopped..like it was waiting for something..but no alarm.
I think everybody in the free world is working on this thing for me.
I wonder how much it would cost to retrofit a Heidenhain iTNC530

It took me a while to do the same thing. You cannot use a name for the subprogram, and Fanuc controls do not read the inside of a file to get the O word like it will if the subprogram is in the onboard memory. The file name must be formatted like the O word of the program. Here is the line we use in one of our main programs to call a sub from a flash card:

M198P11111(calls prg. O1111 from memory card one time) The name of the file on the card is
O1111(just like the O word at the start of a program). There can be no extension on the file name. The way Fanuc uses a flash card for storage/memory is not the same as the memory built in. I figured this out, because sometimes the operators don't type in a file name when they punch a program to the flash card, and Fanuc names the file to exactly what the O word of the program is for ex. O1111 with no extension.
