Hello - I am working with a Fagor 8040M and want to move beyond just the basic 3 axis mill as it is right now and use the side mount arm type tool changer which is fitted to the machine. Someone else performed this retrofit and couldn't get the tool changer working - now I want to try and make it work. I want to know where to find a full description of valid commands and syntax for PLC programming on this control. Anyone have experience with this? |

| can you read and understand the fagor plc? you should be able to determine the M codes from the plc. Read the input and output list and look for toolchanger related inputs. there should be a reference input for carousel position, a carousel in and out M code pair a tool clamp / unclamp M code pair look for a macro or subprogram for the tool changer. In the general parameters around 48-50 there is a toolchange sub routine parameter look for the sub call number there first. What machine is this fitted on? I have a friend with a fagor 8050 mill with a 8 position carousel, I will be there next week and can download the plc and tool changer macro . |

Tool Changers are easy for the 8040 assuming you have enough I/O.... you must have the expanded I/O to be able to accomodate the additional I/O necessary. With that said, they are all logical.... if you're logical, you can make it work. Consider working with the Fagor Service department at 800-423-2467 with help/guidance. With the PLC commands, go to www.fagorautomation.com and then to the download center, and you can download the 8040 installation (OEM) manual and you will find all PLC commands and their mnenomics or marks for the PLC program. It also has a few tool changer PLC example programs in it, although I do not know if they will match your configuration, they are worth while to look over. (As a note the 8055i has the exact same PLC commands) Hope this helps ! Good Luck, Todd |

| Hey Todd - thanks - I spent some time on the site you linked and got a bit of information. But which download has the 'few sample tool changer programs' in it? So far the best info i've gotten is the basic plc program example for 3 axis mill without tool changer. What is the name of the manual these tool changer program examples are in? |

There is a Tool Changer turret PLC example at the Fagor USA site: http://www.fagor-automation.com/Tech..._CNC_8055.html This may help you get started. |

PM your email address, and I can send you a good proven Milling w/tool changer PLC program that will in general, possibly work for you if you utilize the identical I/O assignments. You want to have Fagor DNC Software..... if you do not have it, you can go to the download center at www.fagorautomation.com and download the latest and greatest version free of charge. Todd |
