Win DNC

Has anyone been able to get WinDNC to work with a laptop that only has a USB port? In the setup it only list ports 1-4 as an option.

I'm able to transfer files with another DNC specific to Mazaks thru USB so I know it's possible if WinDNC can be configured correctly to recognize a USB port..

Thanks for any input.

Remember the 8025 and 8050-55 controls have different wiring

I'm using the single port model from Iogear to connect with another DNC specific to Mazaks. My question is then which port should I be using in the WinDNC setup?

Windnc will not recognize a USB port without it being configured as a COM port, the iogear comes with software to map the usb port to com ports, you should see the choices when you configure the windnc software by creating a new connection and check the drop down list for com ports.

Are you saying that the USB port must be mapped within Windnc? The USB port works when I use another DNC. I've been using the USB for quite a while and don't remember if I had to load any software before using.

I'm using Ezatrol for the Mazaks and would prefer to just use one common DNC. It will download programs from the control but can't send them back, can't recall what the error message said. The tech said it will work, used the setting from the manual but still won't upload. Ezatrol has tons of setting and I'm sure someone with Fagor experience could get it going in no time, think this maybe something you may be able to help troubleshoot? Fagor 8025T.

before you do anything check that the cable you have for a fagor 8025 is wired correctly, you use pin 7 on cnc to pin 5 on pc
see this manual

Your IOGear HAS TO have the software installed that maps it as a com port.
I am willing to bet that you have done this already or it probably wouldn't work with the Mazak either.
When setting up WINDNC you will have to check the COM properties in MS Windows to see where the adapter is addressed so that you can pick the correct port in WinDNC.

I also found that Fagor/WinDNC (contrary to the normal "slower always works") needed to run the baud rate really high or it wouldn't COM.

I'm using Windows XP and not sure where to look for the COM properties.

An 8025 controller tops out at 9600 baud
An 8050-55 controller can go up to 115200 baud

Com ports

Hi Jerry,

That is where I looked before I posted but nothing there. I guess the reason I cant see anything listed in devise manager is because there has to be something connect before it will show up. I'll try it again when I get back in town.

Yep, your device has to be plugged in.
