more information

I can get the files on my cnc machine, the G codes are syntaxed correctly, it's just the instructions don't make sense-- so I think it's an interpretation issue, meaning no post or the wrong post. I use sldworks and load the dxf/dwg into windnc (CAM, right?) and then xfer to the cnc.
I have lazy cam, Mach 3, and Bobcad/cam-- should I use one of these instead of WinDNC? ... or with Windnc? again, my ignorance is obvious.
The help with the slddrw format is great. I never thought about the other items on the dwg sheet affecting the gcode generation. duh. Ok, load the plan view, and get rid of everything that's not part --before conversion. This should help...!

Thanks again,

WinDNC is NOT CAM.
It is an RS232 transfer program.

WinDNC is an exciting Windows-based product which provided
an automated method for the storage and transfer of NC part
programs.
If you wish to use CAM - go ahead.
I would send the DXF into the control and then use the conversational system to make the toolpaths.
If your are just sending a DXF to the 8055 through WinDNC and then trying to execute it, that is the problem, because you haven't made any toolpaths from it.

I think I've got enough to work out now

Thanks for all the assistance on this issue. I've got a much clearer picture of what I'm supposed to be doing here. I'll use either Lazy Cam or Bobcad / cam for tool paths and windnc to transfer files.

Now I need to go up the learning curve and get the cad, cam, xfer program, post, 8055 fagor, etc all talking.

Thanks for all the help, again.

When I log a few more questions, i'll get back to this forum. It's been very helpful.

sound about right.
Remember that the "post" (post processor) is part of the CAM software. It is not a "filter" that is used later.
If your CAM does not have a suitable post processor, you will have to customize your own. From what I understand BobCAD tech will assist you in doing this. You are likely on your own with LazyCAM.
Either way it should not be difficult to do.

Ok, I'm working on it...

Thanks for the additional information. Sometimes the information available on the web is so huge that the simple details are often lost or hidden. Hidden for me, anyway.

I'm sure I'll have more questions in time. Lots to work on now. Thanks for all your help.

This thread is dead, boys

All, thanks for the help. It's been resolved. Couldn't have done it without you.

On another note...
I've attached a pict (phone pic =crap)to show what I've completed as of about a week ago on my prototype router project.
Still have the work table to install, and electronics box. Then, hopefully, the fun part begins.
This doesn't have to do with the CNC Mill I had the problem with, however. This is just a prototype router that I'm working on.
Thanks again.

Dear Xkadet,

You probably changed soft limits to bigger values to get rid of it but that warning sometimes comes up when you try to move axes in jog mode before homing them

Remember, real soft limits save mechanics...

thanks for the tip. turns out the problem was more basic and due to a misunderstanding the of the post processor. got it straightened out.
Best regards

For soft limit overrun, u can have moret han one solutions.

u try this first. Setting the zero offset first before any simulation. Please make sure the size of workpiece still in the machine working area. Make sure the positive and negative sign of coordinates refer to zero offset is still working area. If not try to relocate the zero offset of the workpiece or move the workpiece on te machine table.
