    engraving with 8040

Hi, Just bought a VMC, 2005 era Micro-cut Challenger 2412. THis unit has 8040 controls (will not be powered up for a couple of weeks to be able to check exact version).

I have a long learning curve, but Fagor is sending out a training DVD and I have the original manuals.. so that will be my future studies...

I have ALibre for CAD, and have not decided on anything for CAM yet, and will have to as the programs I need to run require cad / cam in addition to the conversational programs.

    My questions are:
Does the 8040 have an engraving option, or would my options be to engrave thru cad/cam?

thanks alot, will have many newbie questions and very much appreciate the knowledge here!

I do not have the machine yet, should be here next week, but Fagor Automation sent me a training DVD that is quite helpful, and they quickly mentioned and showed the screen for engraving, so I am pretty excited about that. Actually, looking at the whole conversational interface they have... I am optimistic that this was a VERY good choice for me.

I would like to add a probe to it, and found one at:
    Wildhorse Innovations - The DRO-350 Store - Econo-Probe 3D Probe & Tool Height Setter

I know it is not a renishaw / marposs but if I can wire it in to talk to the Fagor, then it will be a step in the right direction.

    Anyone with experience here?

    Hi RBI,

Yes, we have an Engraving Cycle option. It may already be turned on with your 05 machine, or not. Call and talk to the Fagor service department at 800-423-2467 if you discover it is not turned on, but would like it too. (As a note, to access on the conversational side of the CNC, press the "pcall" key, it will show the cycle in the directory if you do.

In regards to basic probing, this is a standard feature of all Fagor CNC's.... G75.

In addition, optionally, you have a library of Probing canned cycles plus Digitizing cycles available. To see if this were turned on prior, on the G-code side of the CNC, go into the diagnostic mode and then into software configuration. It will show Probing and Digitizing if they are turned on.

    Hope this helps.

    Todd
