help help help

I have a Machining Center Fadal VMC 4020. For days I'm hearing a noise (as if something metal is grazing very intermittent ) when I move the X axis at low speed. Yesterday I reviewed the sv motor to see if I could detect something, I pulled out the motor and check but I could not detect where the sound comes. I put everything in place and continue working. Today when I turned the machine on appears alarm 430: X axis sv motor overheat . I do not know what happened does not turn off the alarm with the reset. Anyone can help me? urgent

Buy me a Beer?

Check the temperature of the motor by touch, if it is actually overheated then you have a friction problem in the motor, ball screw etc, also if the motor has a brake that is not releasing this can be the cause.
Although in some instances if the load is too high the control anticipates an overheat before it actually happens.

What year is it?
Is it Linear way or box way?
Could be motor bearings.
Could be ball screw
More prominent is the thrust bearing.
Do you use the cool power system and have you replaced the seal recently?

I second the thrust bearings. Common Fadal problem, especially with the liquid cooled screws. I just unplumb the damn screws. Its a big a$$ screw and its not like its screaming around at 3000ipm.

Had a mazak running 1200 ipm rapids and some insane accelerations, an 8600 lb machine would walk across the shop, I saw it walk a foot in one shift, (it got bolted down). Those weren't liquid cooled screws and they were actually a little smaller than the Fadal screws.

Back to the bearings, I've had ones that would spin one way and then bind up tight spinning the other way and overload the motor. The makes me really think its the bearings.

You've already got the motor out, it should take about 4 seconds to determine if its screw side or motor side.

Hello thank you for your early reply to all. My machine is 2007, fanuc 18imb control, servo motor beta i , I did a test, my basic problem is the noise but after work and turn off the machine and turn on it the next day, appeared : 430 X axis sv motor overheat alarm. My test was to switch the encoder X for the Y encoder, in the amplifier connections. The result was alarm: Y axis sv motor overheat . That makes me think that is the thermistor bad . I test the cable and is ok . My question is how I prove it and where is the thermistor in the sv motor ?
Iess525 I have to go tomorrow out of venezuela and return back the next week give me your phone number for call you back please
