Tapping with G84 cycle on old machine

I'm interested in doing some tapping on an older Fadal VMC ('87). It has the original, 10000rpm spindle (not vector drive), but has been upgraded to a -5 control.

If I were to get a tension tap holder, would I be able to go tap away with the G84 cycle?

I say yes (but that is not definitive).
