VMC15XT spindle

Hello,

I am newbee in this forum that I just discovered.
We are a workshop for disabled people and use since 15 years a Fadal VMC15XT and are very satisfied.
The problem is that the spindle don't rotate anymore and as usual we called for service and they will now change the SWEODRIVE control, costs more than $ 10K
We wouldn't like to invest such a sum for an old machine.
We opened the SWEODRIVE control and find out that the fuse F1 was blown.
We replaced it, and tried the drive without the spindle motor attached. It works now, one can see parameters and so on.
With spindle motor, the fuse melt again!
The 3 windings of the spindle motor shows each a resistance of about .5 ohm (measured with a DVM) wich seems very low but I don't know if normal.

Who could help us with a tip?

Many thanks for each input!

Jean-Claude

Most likely your spindle motor driver has failed switching device(s) (most likely large IGBTs or darlington transistor modules)

It is possible to repair but you need to know something about inverters and motor drives to do that. Can you post pic about internal parts?

The Ohm reading from leg to leg should be .05 to .8 ohms in both the wye and delta windings. Measuring leg to ground should be open.

Hello,

Thank you FinnCNC for your answer.
Here the pictures you asked for.
What do you think of the resistance of the motor coils?

Many thanks to all for your help
