I have a VMC 40 (2216) that is giving me an X amplifier fault sometimes. When I turn on the machine it will say it cannot read X. Or sometimes when it is on it will only jog on X- (in 1 direction), and when I try to move X+ (opposite direction) it will still only move in X- ? Like it is stuck or something. What do you guy's think it is, amplifier or the X servo motor. Should I swap X and Y amplifier and see if it moves to Y to test if it's the amplifier..... Is there a way to check servo motor ? Could chips on the ball screw cause this? Could a loose wire to the Servo motor cause this? Need some help Thanks in advance guy's TMILLS |

| Tmills-- Typically, when you can only jog in one direction the cause is normaly the amplifier. The other reason could be that something is drastically loose in the mechanicals of the system allowing something to torque and bind. Neal |

| If it turns out the amplifier needs to be replaced, let me know. Good luck!

Is there anyway to check amplifier other than switching with another axis amplifier??? I'm getting another amplifier fault on X. This time instead of it only moving on X in one direction it is stalling out in feed move cutting alum. Went back to the board and wiggled it around a little bit and problem went away. Is the board going bad or what. would a bad board just be bad or could it go gradually go bad (working and sometimes not working?) What is a X amplifier board going to cost for my 1992 VMC 40? And is it just plug new board into slot? Or do you have to do anything special after installing it? thanks TMILLS |
