Hello all, I recently purchased a '99 VMC2216 with a 15 hp, 10000 rpm spindle motor. I was wondering if anyone has used a VFD to power a similar machine and if so, are there any recommendations? Will a 15 hp VFD have the capacity to run the peak spindle speed and does this have any benefits over a rotary phase converter? It's 230 volt, 3 phase. Thanks, Dan |

| I'm guessing you have single phase where the machine will be located?

| I believe that a VFD will only provide power while it has draw. Yes that VFD will run the spindle motor (if hooked directly to it) but your machine requires a constant power supply to run it as a whole. VFD is electronic control that uses load for feedbck, it will not play nicely with anything else trying to control things in the middle. For instance. A friend is running his BP with one. He can't just throw the BPs reverse switch like I do. He has to turn off the spindle on the VFD. Then throw the reverse switch. Then start the motor with the VFD again.
