Problem- Tapping w/840D

[Just Cut It]

Hi all,

Long time lurker/ first time poster.

I'm trying to do some tapping on a Fadal with a Siemens 840D controller.
It won't tap unless the pitch can be evenly divided into 1" (10, 20, 25, 50, tpi, ect). I get an error code of 61262, and a message "Lead not possible with selected tool".
I know I have the right tool selected and it is fully described in the tool library. If I change the pitch to 20 tpi in the program and in the library, it will work. But when I change it back to 32 tpi (at both fields) I get the above error mesage.
I'm programing at the machine with Shop Mill.

I've called my local Fadal applications guy, but that was 3 1/2 weeks ago. Called him again today, and again waiting for a call back.

I just have a feeling that there is a parameter some where that is just set too fine.

Have you tried to insert the line of code using the controls' built in "canned" program? Is this the first time you have received this error?

Call Fadal in Ca.
When I called last tuesday I asked for the application guy for the Siemens control. He was a great help and knew his way around the control.
