Fadal 4020 - yuasa 4th hookup

Ok looking for some insite. I have the old fadal 4020 cnc88 -2 system with/out a 4th axis board. Also I do not have the M-code board.
My question is this, Whats the best way to get this 4th up and running, I have heard you can use different M-codes to run this thing as an indexer and also as a true 4th axis. But Im not sure what the best way to handle this is. I am currently looking for the 4th axis board but not even sure what that will do for me as the Yuasa has its own controller, So do I remove the comtroller and just run the 4th from the machine at that point.

I guess Im looking for differnt hookup options and some of your experiences.

Thanks for your time.

First thing you have to do is determine what M codes it uses. For M28 M80 (I believe those are the two) is would take a different M code card than for M60 and M61. The M card will get you indexing and the axis amp will get you to the true axis. You will also need to determine if it is a AC or DC and if it is 90 or 180 to 1 ratio.

so this is what I've found out. I found a M-function expansion board on ebay and bought it. Its the 1050-3A and The motor on the 4th is a closed-loop DC drive.
The unit has a simple NC connection scematic that shows two wires for Step start signal (green and Yellow) and two sets of wires for the finish step signal. one pair is marked 1 and 1a (red and white wires), and the other is 2 and 2a (purple and blue wires), Also there is a an emergency stop circuit using (black and brown wires).

Why would they have two finish circuits? whats the purpose of these? I would think you would only need one set.

Also is it possible to hook this up so the machine moves at the same time as the indexer? I know it would not be in sync, but it would be nice if I could leave the machine positioned with the spindle running and allow the indexer to feed to cut the part.

Note* if anyone has a 4th axis board that they think would work with this system please drop me a pm.

That board does the M20/M80 not the M60/M61. Make sure its right for your indexer

Ok I have the m20/m80 1050-3a board installed. I am using the these M codes to control the 4th axis. I have the 4th hooked up to the 1050-3a board to read a start signal and send the finish signal.
But what I need now is an example of programming with m20 and m80. I can get the indexer to run the line in the program by MDI'ing a m20 code but it will hang the machine (its waiting for the finish signal). So do I program with m20 then a m80 code to watch for the finish signal? I just dont have any examples of using these codes to program with. Anything you can point me to as far as examples would be fantastic.

thanks for your time

Ok we got it..

This is what we have to do. We send it a m20 every time we want the indexer to read 1 line. we can link lines into complete programs by not outputting a finish signal until we have completed all the steps we need to run.

so an example is

G0 X25.4 M03 S1000
G1 Z-2.54 F5.0
M20 (4th axis controller is programmed to index to 90deg at a feed rate of 5)
(machine waits with spindle running, when 4th is complete finish signal is sent to control and continues with program)
G0 Z2.54

Apparently we do not need the M80 code at all.
