Is FADAL or MAG at WESTEC

Is FADAL going to be represented at Westec? I received my packet and did not see them listed in the exhibitors list. Does anyone have any insight as to the direction that FADAL is going? I have heard rumblings that FADAL is leaving Chatsworth. If that is true it is sad. Their facility there was, at one time, awesome.

Interesting. I just checked the SME website and it's not in the list yet. Maybe they're on the fence?

That was a pretty large booth last year so I can't imagine them adding-in at the last minute.

My source tells me Fadal is not going to be at Westec this year.
This is also the final year for the show in Los Angeles, it is moving
to Las Vegas next year and will alternate years with IMTS.

I have also heard Ellison, Sandvik and a few other big names will cancel this year. A big booth at the show can cost $500,000 for the week. That is a lot
$ in these slow times.

Huh? Really? Is this confirmed or just rumor right now? That'll impact my ability to attend and I really look forward to the show every year.

My sources say that SME has a contract with the LA convention center until 2018.

It's important to me to get a semi-reliable answer. I'm trying to setup a visit for 8 other engineers to attend the show this year. If they kill the show locally, we'll never get another chance.

This looks like a new event. It is called Machine Tool Experience-Las Vegas--MTELV and is not Westec.

Thanks for that info. I hope it holds true. I really value Westec.

I struck out at work. Evidently, my manager doesn't see any real reason why aircraft design engineers should attend Westec.

Yes, Fadal is moving what's left of their production to Wisconson.

The Service/ Maintenance Technologies dept. will stay in Chatsworth for the time being along with some of the Enginering staff. Fadal hasn't advertised in most of the machine shop related magazines since August of 2008.

I used to work at the Chatsworth, CA facility until about 3 years ago. I had been with the company 11 years before then and saw the changes of management from the original remaining family owners Dave and Larry deCaussin to > Giddings & Lewis >Thyssen > Thyssen-Krupp > Thyssen Metal Cutting Group > Mag Corp. In that time and also saw a great company essentially run into the ground by so many changes of ownership with so little idea of where to go in the future. Mag Corp seems to be trying to be a "Swiss Army Knife" type of machine tool company mashing disparate companies who were often former rivals into the mix.

Friday March 6, 2009 is the last production day for the Chatsworth facility.
