HELP WITH ERROR 9, SPINDLE LINE FAULT

Hello from Australia. We are suffering from our 5th day with 44c temperatures.

I own a 1997 4020. I have turned the machine on this afternoon, started the spindle and tripped the emergency stop. The controller has displayed "c axis, fault 9, spindle fault line". When I turned it back on with spindle on 10% rpm it ran ok and sounded fine but the spindle load was high at 30%, when I slowly ramped it up to 100% the spindle still showed 30% load. If I ramped the spindle up quickly it seemed to hesitate then speed up several times before reaching 100%, it did this fairly slowly and the motor would shudder when it hesitated. Once the spindle had reach 100% rpm the load showed 100% and the emergency stop then tripped. Strangely the load meter would remain on 30% for several seconds after I turned the spindle off myself.
Could the excessive temperature we had today cause problems ?. The workshop is air conditioned but the machine was started before it was cool.

Any help would be great, as I run a small shop and this machine does all of my work.

Cheers Matt

Check to see what the inverter in the back cabinet says on the screen. I am guessing it says this after you try to jog for a cold start? Could be the fan in your spindle inverter (happened to us) or a loose ocnnection or a transistor or capacitor or even fuse in your spindle drive.

Thanks for your reply.
I have looked at the inverter (Baldor INV-0041), the screen is luminated but there is nothing at all displayed. the stop button light is on and reset doesn't do anything. The fan is working. Does this mean a replacment inverter ?, if so is $ 2940.00 US a reasonable price for a Baldor inv-0041inverter ?.
A technician is looking at the machine on monday, but because Fadal is not a common brand in Australia I am relying on any tips that cnc zone members know to pass on to the tecnician who has no experience with Fadals.

You should be able to get the unit fixed and upgraded for about $2K US from Practecllc.com
