A few questions regarding fluids in a Fadal

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased a Fadal 3 axis machine, model 904-1. I am trying to locate some of the fluids that the manual recommends but some are not easily obtained locally. Below is a list of what the manual says to use and where. Do any of you know of comparable fluids that I might be able to obtain from Grainger? Thanks in advance for your help.

Waylube - Mobil Vactra #2 This one is available locally

Rotary Tables - Mobil Gear 626 Would have to be special ordered

Hydraulic Hi/Low - Mobil DTE Heavy Medium Would have to be special ordered

The software that I have is BobCad-Cam. Anyone familiar with this?

Fadal Fluids

You should be able to contact a local industrial oil supplier that can cross reference the fluids you need there is almost always a generic equivelant offered by these suppliers. We use Central oil in Roseville Michigan on Edison Street. They are close to us but we have 3 other local suppliers that also offer their own mixes that are all generic equivelants. I don't think granger is the best source for too many of the fluids. We also have Bob Cad Cam but for our lathe. Not the freindliest interface compared with Mastercam but alot less$ Should work well once you get past the learning curve.

I agree, a local lubricant supplier can set you up. They have cross reference tables to the products they carry. I have been using Golden West Lubricants in S. Cal. I use their EP Industrial Gear #68 for my rotary table.

The Mobil Vactra #2 way oil is super common as you know, and the Mobil DTE series of hydralic oils are also very common. I use the DTE light in my Lathe gearbox.

You may also find one on the web like this one.

They also cross reference several other lubes/oils on their site.

DO NOT USE ANY OTHER LUBE NO MATTER THE CROSS REFERENCE! We had major issues using other cross reference lubes for our Fadals and had terrible way wear. (about 12 years ago)

I don't think he had any issues with getting Vactra #2 for way lube. It's the gear oil for the 4th axis he's looking for. That's not nearly as sensitive and most gear oils cross reference very well.
