| The "controller" by that I mean where the program gets uploaded to...is the CPU card, I believe the card in the main control cab on the bottom furthest to the left, has the battery backup, and memory card on it. On my machine it is in slots four and five and has CPU written above it. |

The memory manager is CNCMAIN.exe on the 1992 hd that was in the 32MP. Called Fadal and told him I wanted to RS422 directly from my workstation to the CNC controller. He said he had never heard of it being done but does not see any objections, meaning it may be possible. He sent a updated CNCMAIN,exe v1.4 to v2.4, I will call his recommended person at Fadal on Monday to know how to make this connection. I do not see the advantage of upgrading the emmulator or visulizer programs as mastercam does all of that quite well. Still looking for a subroutine post for my mastercam 9.0 Anyone? |

| Hello, I think, this part of the forum comes closest to my problem. I installed a new CPU-Card (PEAK 639VL2) on the FADAL CNC 32MP, with OS Windows XP Pro. The only ISA-Slot, which is also used next to the cpu-card is the QUATECH-Card 302.5. According to QUATECH, a driver is not needed for this card under Windows XP. Here come the problems: - cncmain.bat / cncmainx.bat only wants to communicate with com2, but com2 is now on the cpu-card and is not the quatech 302.5! We deactivated the comports in windows, in BIOS, we changed parameters on the com-ports, but we were not able to access the quatech 302.5. What we found out: - on com2, we at least can do a Kable-access-test with jumpered port 2 and 3 (not so with the quatech 302.5 card) - on the quatech 302.5, we at least got the cnc switching in the mode receiving dos-commands, but no command was received or file transmitted. (wrong irq, interference with existing com2-port?) - On the cnc, the baudrate is set to 9600 We tried a gender-changer on the com-port and a null-modem-cable. We changed the parameters between XMODEM and Xon/Xoff-mode. Always, we checked the connection test in the utilitys of cncmain with different baud-rates, but always we got timeouts or i/o errors. - the quatech 302.5 can be configured to work as com1, 2, 3, ... but in the testmenue of cncmain.bat, it is only possible to select com1 or com2 We read the manuals from http://www.fadal.com and from http://quatech.com but the questions mentioned later are still open. Strange things: - we found out, that serial1 in Bios is com2 in Windows and viceversa - on com1 with the genderchanger, the mousearrow gets crazy and in cncmode, it is nearly not possible to enter characters - on com2, with the nullmodem-cable, we also have problems entering characters in cnc-mode (but the mouse stays under control) Questions: - where can we tell the software to use com4? Do we need to create it in windows? - What can we do now to get one of the onboard com-ports working or get the quatech 302.5 working? - Isn't it possible to work with the Qatech 302.5 as com4 (when installing a new com-port, com3 is skipped, wo we would have to install it as com4)? - Should we use a nullmodem-cable or a gender-changer to get the com-ports working, which parameters need to be used for what? - which tools are useful, which windows configuration is needed? We have this com-port configurator from quatech, but we don't know if he really does something!? Is it better to use cncmainx or cncmaind? should we install a driver, when yes, which one? (com or quatech)? Fadal Service in Germany wants to exchange the whole (brandnew!) processing unit with a complete preinstalled one! They don't care for the problem. Do you know what I can do next? Thanx for your help in advance. Fred, the puberter Last edited by puberter; 01-24-2005 at 11:05 AM. |

| Hi all, the solution for our problem was found by the iXperts GmbH http://www.ixperts.de They found out, that the system always wants to work on com-port-2, no matter, what was configured in the config-files. Then they deactivated the comport2 on the bios and deleted it in windows. After this, they reassigned the comport3 of the quatech 302.5 to comport2. (quatech 302.5 needs no driver, a simple comport-configuration is enough under win xp.) Suddenly, everything was working fine!! Thank you iXperts! They are real cracks ... |
