One file - lots of programs

I've got a 2000 Fadal 3016L. It's time for some program housekeeping, but the only options to download all the programs from memory are either everything or the current file.

I clearly don't have the patience to download each file, but one big block containing every file is pretty useless as well.

Is there a way to download all the files and separate them into individual programs to save in a directory on my PC? This way I can reload the programs I need and make it easier to find programs on the control.

Thanks,

Stu

I had to do a zero memory deal on my mem card. I downloaded all the programs then over 4megs of them, then in my editor I copy and pasted all the programs separately only took about 10-15 mins.
just do a search for the O which is the start of each program.

also when you send that org file ( the big block) they will all seperate into each separate program number. you wont end up with just one program.

For example lets say I have 3 programs/operations I just programmed on the pc.
I put them all in one file and hit the send button, this way it sends them to the machine in all different program numbers again the "O"program number will make a seperate program on the fadal.

N1 O1234(PROGRAM 1)
N2 BLAH
N3 BLAH
N4 BLAH
N5 M30
N1 O1235(PROGRAM 2)
N2 BLAH
N3 BLAH
N4 BLAH
N5 M30
N1 01236(PROGRAM 3)
N2 BLAH
N3 BLAH
N4 BLAH
N5 M30

I stick 'em in Notepad, and do a search for N10....or whatever your customary first line number is. Stick a space or two in at the top, and then store it.

It's a PITA, I know.

O/K, so I admit I'm lazy. My fadal has something around 4200 programs sitting in memory and I am having a dickens of a time scolling through hundreds of pages with the next page key, then loading a program to see if's it's what I wanted, only to find out it's not.

I have this single huge backup file that I can scroll through if all goes to heck, but hey like I said I'm lazy. far to lazy to cut and paste through a gazillion lines of code.

Sure I know I can do the serch for ) or N1 trick.

Surely somebody has written a macro to take the single file, search between the o's and separate it into separate files.

Yes, yes, I shouldn't have been so lazy and developed a system but hey, it was my first CNC machine that doesn't let me use descriptive file names and after several computer systems it still has almost every program I've ever run on it in memory. Now it's time for some housekeeping.

Just for clarification the directory of the Fadal control will display only 200 different program names. The only to method of save the files to a remote computer are one at a time or all in one batch file. From this batch file,You can cut and paste the individual file in a word processor into separate files.

I used NCPlot. With a little effort it will separate the one big file into each individual file. You just have to remove all the N numbers first. Easy to do with the editor.

Be careful of searching for "O", If you use text in your program it will find any O in the text also. I search for M30 or M2 to seperate mine. Also, I am not sure about anyone else but I have found I need to add a % to the beginning and end of each seperated program before uploading back to the machine or it will not load correctly.

Sorting program

I recently had need to become more familiar with Fadal systems. One trip thru a back up file and I saw the use for a sorting program. If anyone is interested, I wrote a VB exe file for this function
will open bu file
separate at M99 line
Allow edit/notes
save as gcode file
load next file in sequence for edit/save/discard

Pm if you want to try it
I am sure there are some changes that can be made so feedback is welcome.

We have a DOS utility that will split out all the programs into separate file names. It will also generate a text file at the end with all the programs created. We will put the program in the documentation section of our web page at www.calmotion.com sometime tomorrow for you to use.
