    2216 FX…….
Yep, we got one about 8 months ago and we really like it! I’ve been hesitant to post anything on this forum because it seems like an “FX wipping post”…..We got about 400 hours of cut time on ours (1 shift/day) and have only had 1 minor problem with the tool changer hanging up….Fixed same day by Ellision! The surface finishes we are getting in stainless are awesome, machine seems to be very rigid and stable, holds tolerances good. We got the OI-MC Fanuc control with manual guide-I, and it is pre wired for a 4th axis. The sales guy told me it was a tad over 50k to our floor, which included a 3300.00 Kennametal swag certificate. I think it’s a lot of machine for the money and would consider buying another.

My two cents…..haas boys fire away!

I'm glad you like your mill. The rep in my area is not very reliable, when I started my shop I first looked at a Fadal. I went to the open house, and looked at a very nice reman. 3016. It had the new LCD display and new drives and motors, it was a real creampuff. I got the quote and applied for financing and that was as far as it got. No return calls or any contact, so I went the Haas route. The Haas has been good to me, I had a power supply problem, and Haas fixed it the next day. I have had very good service from Haas and I have ran Haas's for sometime and no learning curve. I have ran Fadal's and I know them inside and out also. I am hoping the FX mill's really get going and starts putting some good reliable machines out. Has anyone heard about the new control Fadal is going to release. I hope it's better than the last go around (104D), now that was sad.

    rickyt,

too bad about your Fadal rep because I think the Fx's are really good bang for the buck....Anyone that is considering buying one should really spend the extra $$$ (I think about 6k) for the double arm tool changer....It would pay for itself in a hurry! It gets after it as far as rapids go too! 1000 ipm...............

Carousel tool changer lost its mind out of the blue, didn't know what tool was where.
Machine arrived with probing interface mis-wired, parameters set wrong, M-codes programmed wrong... every attempt to probe resulted in an override-disabled z-minus rapid plunge into the table... we went through 4 probe tips before the wiring, parameters, and M-codes were fixed.
Manuals for the machine could not be located, had to be downloaded from Fadal's site 2 months after delivery.
Spindle has been torn down twice.
Chip conveyor was mis-wired when it arrived.
DATC will sometimes just stop mid-cycle for no reason, no alarm.
Service people can't fix the DATC or carousel, since they are random problems.
Currently can't tap a 4-40 without destroying taps... waiting to find out if there are more parameter problems...
Screen flickers, and is un-usable, in setup mode... Software update failed to correct the problem.
The current method of running the machine is to set the override to 0%, keep one hand on the big red button, jab the 'cycle start', and hover over the 'feed hold' button until it looks like its going to go.

Solid machine, should be a workhorse, the Fanuc control should be easy... But so far, we have no confidence in the control/machine combo.

sorry to hear that. I had called up fadal to talk to a salesman to get a quote on a machine and they never returned my call so I went with a haas.

As I suspected... there were (more) parameter problems preventing us from tapping...
Is it a bad thing when I have 5 different Fadal contacts on speed dial (2 servicemen, the supplier, and 2 different supervisors at their assembly plant) when we only have the one machine, and it's not even 6 months old?

And now we have a new (random) noise in our spindle... sounds like a handful of gravel in a blender, but only every once in a while.

    Nice.
