Possibly K1 relay is dropping out due to a low voltage which shuts down the DC power supply and your CPU goes dead. It may be the relay or the power supply causing the issue.

I have a 94 VMC15. It's been shutting down latley when cold. I run a warmup program in the morning and after about 10 min it will shut down with a loud thunk. It sounds like the spindle orient air cylinder is activated for a split second then released. The screen is blank and I have to press the green button in the back to get it working again. This was just an intermintent problem for the last year or so, but now it's happining almost every day, somtimes more than once. Anyone have this problem before?

If that doesn't work, I would replace the Tri-mag power supply and see if that don't nail it. Give us a call and we'll ship one out at no risk (www.FadalCNC.com). If it doesn't work, send it back. I can also be contacted via phone if you want to t'shoot personally and get it out of your hair.
Good luck.

I have issues with the hi - low cylinder.
Being an older machine, it seems to bleed out a bit.
I have found toggling S.1 - S.2 half dozen times before running gets things set again.
This tends only to be an issue when machine is not used for awhile and usually results in a "C axis fault".
If your speed cylinders go away while you are running at hi RPM you will Know it because it will scare the living crap out of you.

I would put my money on the air solenoid in the back panel being plugged up with crap. Take off the air inlet to the solenoid manifold, sometimes on both sides, then drench it with WD40. Fill both tubes with WD40 or where ever you can get WD40 into the inlet of all your solenoid valves. I bet this clears the troubled one out and you get the flow to your idler cylinder actuator you need to hold it in place with it's own bad seals, if it's old and leaking.
Run the M19, S1000.1 M3, s1000.2, several times and this should clean them out if there is hope at all.
You are getting the "C" axis fault because the motor overspeeds with loose belts, then faults out. This is due to the encoder feedback to the spindle drive and the commanded speed signal not jiving for a split second.
Anyway, I doubt you have a short and now that I think it over more thoroughly, I would chase after your MAC solenoids. We have plenty in stock individually if you need one, and they're pretty cheap. www.FadalCNC.com
Good luck!!
