Networking Fadal CNC 88HS & 88 to Multiple PC's

We currently have 2 CNC's that are wired directly to a PC and would like to expand the ability of Machinist to communicate with the CNC's. Is it possible to allow multiple PC's to communicate with a CNC? If so, how is this accomplished?

Do you need more than just switch boxes?

Simple switch boxes will work fine. You can use several to create the desired interconnecting you want. We made one switching unit to connect 3 computers to 6 different machines. However with our setup we cannot use all 3 computers for communication at the same time. You just have to be careful that you don't talk to the wrong machine.

We have an E232 product that may do what you want. This is an Ethernet to RS232 interface that is located at your CNC. The communication is thru Ethernet cabling to your computers.

You could simultaneously communicate to both machines. There are no mechanical switch boxes used. However, you would use an Ethernet switch which is something quite different than a mechanical switch. An Ethernet switch is essentially a junction where many Ethernet cables connect into.

Describe exactly what you want do. Who does what from where? How many files do you transfer per day? Do you drip feed all or some of the time? How large are your files? Are you a job or production shop? How many CNC programs are you working with? 10, 100, 1000, 10,000? Do you reuse programs?

We currently have a switch box attached to one computer and 2 CNC's. If we hook a network router to the PC's and connect the switch bos to the router, would that give us the ability to communicate from any computer that is hooked to the router?

Ethernet and RS232 communication are two totally different animals.

Our E232 is a device that converts special Ethernal signals to RS232 signals.

Your description seems to imply that you are connecting one RS232 port (9 pin connector) to a two position switch box that then routes to two different CNCs. Somewhere along this path you convert from 9 pin to 25 pin connectors. This does not change signal levels or the transferred data. This is simply a routing of wires from one place to another.
