Can I use the same transformer for 240 and 480v 3phase?

I have a fadal here setup for 480v 3 phase and we only have 240v in our shop...can I still use that transformer or do I need a new one?

Don't really know anything about the Fadal specifically, but chances are that it's a 220V machine, and someone with 480 power needed to step it down to 220V. If, and I repeat IF that is the case, you may be able to bypass the transformer completely.

Does that transformer appear to be an integral part of the machine? Or is it an add-on?

Like I said, I don't know anything about the Fadal. I used to work for Star. Their machines were set up to run on 220V. People with 480 had to use a transformer to step it down to 220V. I then worked for Tornos. Their machines were designed to run on 440V (380V 50hz/440V 60hz). And that was only for the coolant and hydraulic motors. People with 220V had to buy the optional transformer that boosted the 220V to 440V, to feed the main transformer which brought it back down to 220V for the servo drives.

Your best bet is to talk to Fadal. They can tell you if that transformer is original equipment, and if that machine will run on 220V.

Found out the 816 transformer is what I want. I have a 814 and three 816's here. The 814 can go 220v single phase or 220v three phase without the neutral. The 816 will go from 210-480 three phase and the only other one made for the older Fadals was the 815 for 380-480v three phase (used overseas)

You could also just wire an external step-up transformer into your shop somewhere (to feed this machine).
You don't need to actually change any Fadal components.
Whatever you like.
