    Default 4th Axis for Fadal 4020

    I have a Fadal 4020 and it came "Wired for 4th axis". Besides getting the 4th Axis table, what else in involved in getting the 4th axis up and running?

    What kind of cost am I looking at?

    You need the servo control. If I remember correctly, 6 years ago it cost me about $8,000 for the cards, VH65 rotary table and installation. My machine was pre-wired too, so I didn't need the wiring harness. It only took about an hour and I was up and running.

    Like Cadman was stating you need to see that the servo card is all ready installed.
    If so all you need is a 4th axis and activate it in the control.

    I just got a VH65 rotary table off ebay. I need to configure the machine for it. Aside from the wiring harness and servo amp, is there anything else needed? Do I need a card for the computer too?

    I was told the VH65 will function as a true forth axis and not just an indexer, do you guys know if this is true?

    How do (did) you guys like your VH65 Tables? Any problems to watch for?

    The VH-65 will operate as a true fourth axis. You'll need the wiring harness, if it's not pre-wired, amplifier, controller card, and wiring and plug from the cabinet up to the bulkhead. The parameters in SETP will need to be set to XYZA axes, 90:1 axis ratio, and M60/A axis brake set to Yes.
    The rest is in the programming. Remember that rotary axis feed rates are stated in decimal degrees per minute.

    Finally got my 4th running.

    The install goes like this for a machine that is not prewired.

    The kit includes harness, two cards, eproms, inhibitor board, air solenoid, and breaker, and dummy plug for when you want the table off. It took about two hours or so to install, not too tough, you have to follow a schematic, but there are only about a dozen and a half wires and a lot of them are numbered already. A servo card gets bolted on, wire harness gets plugged into that, a axis card goes in after installing EPROMS, and two plugs go into that. The air brake solenoid gets bolted on and the air lines slide right in with quick connects. 4 wires go into that.

    The breaker and inhibitor PCB get hooked up, about 10 wires following the schematic. Reset the machine for 4 axis, air break, and 90:1 using SETP, restart with dummy plug or table hooked up.

    4500 for the kit, and harness. The vh 165 table was 5k round abouts.

    5K for the table seems pretty good. I forgot to mention that my machine is DC drives. Do you guys know if the tables are still available in DC?

    Yep mine is all DC as well. They still support them, and have rotary tables / servo controller cards in either AC, or DC.

    Default From a 4th axis VH65 to a 5th axis TR65

    I know this is an old post but you guys are still on cnczone so I'm asking for direction. If I have my machine set up with a VH65 and want to go to a TR65(Tilt/rotate) do I duplicate the gear from A axis (4th) to do the B axis (5th) I understand I have to get the Axis or maybe its the Amp Board with the right EProm on it. Basically what do I need to transition. The VH65 set up now is dc servos and my VMC3016 is ac (2006 reman)

    We have had good luck with our Fadals milling mostly soft steel and aluminum up to 5 axis. We are always looking for spare parts :) If you have a broken down Fadal give a shout.

    Default tr65 setup

    we just replaced the amp card for the B axis on a fadal vmc40 with a tr65. The B axis does not find its cold start position and faults. Does anyone know the procedure to set a new cold start position or find the old one?
